The textiles and apparel industry is one of the world’s largest and most impactful industries. Each year the industry extracts one hundred billion tonnes of resources from the Earth. 70 billion tonnes are dumped as pollution (and just a tiny fraction is recycled once). It’s called Take, Make and Waste and it represents rotten value for ‘consumers’ and for the Earth. This film will be about how we are done with this linear system and what comes next.
In this special edition of Fashionscapes, Livia Firth will take a deep dive into the circular economy and what is happening today around this topic. In defining true circularity, this film will expose the faux circularity industry, and how fashion products based on continued and increasing plastic content trap us in a linear, fossil fuel economy.
